week 4- frame

WOW! It's really coming together now.

The frame was delayed by a few days, but now its cracking a pace. I stopped by with some drinks and snack for the chippies today and had a chat to the main guy. Apparently they have others jobs to get to so need to finish our, so he said he usually works alone, but he had a son and mate helping him today. In one day they got about ha;f the frame (not including roof) up. I thought it was a good effort, given they had to build it onsite. They also made a saw bench out of scrap lengths, i thought it was rather amsuing!

We are hoping to do the data cabling/conduit at the rough in stage, so hopefully they let us! Has anyone had any experience in this? eg has the building coordinator let you?

We have also noticed that we think the meter box is the wrong colour, it looks like paper bark, not cream, so we will have to get this one changed. It seems to have happened to a few people, reading the blogs online.

here are some progress pics from this week so far.

This is at the front door, looking into the house.

looking out the of the window in the main bedroom. Currently there is a lot of building stuff, but i cant wait to get a lovely garde with a weeping cherry in front of this window

Bumble is already making herself at home in the dining room

It was really CUTE, Baxter was sitting at the 'front door' and barking a kid who came to say hello

Boy's delight, planes do loop the loops above our house :)

Our massive laundry! with the extra linen/broom closet on the right hand side. we have about 2m from the back of our house ot the fence, so enough room to put a path to the washing line :)

This is the main living and dining area. Also the bit in the bottom right hand corner in the pantry

our huge walk in wardrobe!

  1. I think my meter box is just painted, same as my down pipes. They're not actual Colorbond. A little bit cheap :-(

  2. ah thats a pity, but easy to repaint if ours ends up being the wrong colour :)

  3. We questioned the meter box also as our paperwork was colourbond woodland grey... instead they are all painted steel. The downpipes could be painted zinc or colourbond depending on what you are prepared to pay for.

As for the data cabling... if you get along with your site supervisor you should be allowed in after the electricians to do what you need. A slab of beer always helps in this case.

Remember, always check up on your house as they do get things wrong and be patient as PD are NOT the best builders to work with. Do not give up fighting to get what you want.

    Good luck

    1. Thanks Mate
yeah, we've had a few issues, i really need to update this blog, but we have a massive issue with our bricks.

Hey also in your garage, is there exposed brick? Our site supervisor is trying to tell us that its normal, but its such a shonky job it surely cant be normal.

hows things since you've moved in? ours got painted today, and looking good so far.

We just find the site supervisor, although a lovely guy and great to talk to, doesnt see things as we do, and advised they aren't issues... thinking of a bulding inspector.....

  4. We were told our garage was to have one wall exposed brick, but no it was completely plastered up. Refer to our blog and you will see a post of the garage where I sealed the floor.

We have had to repair a few things ourselves (leaking taps) and paint touchups as we wait until the 3 month maintenance team gets booked.

Our supervisor was a nice guy also, but things weren't getting done to our expectations and we had to go above the construction manager to the building co-coordinator to get things done.

This caused a little tension but as we explained to our site supervisor, it was not personal, it was a matter of getting things done to our satisfaction as per the contract and what we paid for.

Our house was months over and contract expiry date but we refused to take possession until things were fixed to our satisfaction. We had to get a building inspector in to write a report which was handed to them at PCI. Money well spent as he also advised us on how to handle the builder referred to the Australian standards and what PD had to do to repair all defects.

In the end, PD owed us money for running over contract, we got the house we felt we had paid for and we are settling in slowly. Don't know if we do it all again though.
